The Max Stern Yezreel Valley College

A web based app to manage and coordinate the tutoring program of mentors and students for the college, and a backend system for the college to administer the program used by thousands.

The system is a custom solution, designed from the beginning to end with continuing support and new versions for the college.

The system is a React app for the use of the students and mentors,  and a backend service for the college administrative staff that manage and monitor the program.  

The React app uses Redux as a data layer and REST to communicate with the backend through JWT token authentication. The app is stored on a AWS amplify service and is built automatically when new code is added to the Git repository.

In this app, mentors can plan and create lessons by inviting a student or a group of students to a lesson. The system sends lesson details to all participants and reminds them in advance of the lesson. Students and mentors can view their financial information such as payment and salary.

The backend is powered by Drupal 9 with custom developed modules. The app integrates with existing data systems of the college (for authentication and student courses) and is stored on AWS EC2 and AWS RDS (MySQL database) services. Students’ personal documents are stored in secure S3 service. 

The backend enables the college administrators to:

• view, approve, decline trainees and mentors requests
• approve or decline mentor lessons reports
• manage budgets
• and get financial reports for mentors salary and trainees fees.
